To the South Carolina State Legislature:
WHEREAS, Article I, Section 3 of the South Carolina Constitution guarantees that all persons will be equally protected under the law and not deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process; and
WHEREAS, access to abortion in South Carolina has taken the lives of over 6,000 innocent lives per year; and
WHEREAS, taxpayer funds are currently used to perform such operations in the cases of rape or incest; and
WHEREAS, For three years in a row, Governor McMaster has requested that the state budget remove funding for abortions and reject all federal funding that enables abortion services to be paid for by taxpayers.
THEREFORE, I respectfully urge my representative to publicly support, co-sponsor, and pass amendments to the state budget that remove the ability for taxpayer funds to go to family planning services that provide abortions, and that prohibit employer contributions to the state health insurance plan from being used to reimburse abortion services.
